AUT offers three-year full-time or part-time Bachelor of Arts in Chinese.

 
Manukau Institute of Technology Centre for Chinese Studies

MIT offers courses in Chinese language and culture, business training, and post-graduate translator training. From May 2006 the Centre also offers 10-week introduction to Chinese short courses.

Confucius Institute

Set up in May 2006, the Confucius Institute is a partnership between the PRC Government and the University to promote the learning of Chinese in all New Zealand schools, to provide professional development to language educators, to build partnerships at government and educational levels in New Zealand and overseas, to promote Chinese language and culture in the business sector, and to provide a resource centre for researchers, teachers and students of Chinese. The Institute's Director is Nora Yao.

The School offers BA majors and minors in Chinese and offers graduate programmes for the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language amongst other courses in Chinese. Professor Paul Clark is the head of the School.

The Chinese Programme consists of two streams, Language(including Business Chinese) and Culture, at undergraduate and post-graduate levels. The Programme Director is Dr Hong Xiao.

The Chinese Programme was set up in 1993 and has proven very popular. It offers introductory to advanced Chinese studies and BA Major in Chinese has been available since 1996. Head of the Department of Languages and Cultures is Professor Tim Mehigan.

The University's School of Asian and European Languages and Cultures offers undergraduate and post-graduate courses in Chinese. Students can make full use of the audio-visual and computer aided Language Learning Centre . Programme Director for Chinese is Duncan Campbell.
